The Guardian has sneak preview of You’ve Been Trumped ahead of UK premiere Friday at Sheffield Doc/Fest and concludes: “certainly compelling stuff”.
Sunday Express splashes: “DONALD TRUMP TO MAKE BIG SCREEN DEBUT AS A BULLY.”
“HOW TRUMP WAS TROUNCED”: It’s the explosive documentary looking at the billionaire’s bid to build a Scottish golf course. It caused a furore in Canada and is credited with ruining Trump’s bid for the White House. And now it’s coming here...”
TORONTO & CANNES COVERAGE:
Variety opines that "While a documentary is made about just about anything these days, with most getting little distribution, "You've Been Trumped" should gain more traction because of the scenes as Baxter attempts to question the host of "The Apprentice."
Perez Hilton is, as usual, even more exuberant: "Considering how controversial Donald Trump is right now, we wouldn't be surprised to see this in theaters at all!”
And in another splash reports “...Trump director says Donald is a bully.”
The Hollywood Reporter has devoted several stories to the film. First for stirring controversy and showing “the potential presidential candidate bullying and harrassing rural residents in Scotland." Next came a splash on the film being “shopped at Cannes”. And then for the film “...halting Trump’s Presidential Run”. And now: Controversial Trump expose is coming to the tycoon’s New York doorstep”.
The New York Daily News reports “a new documentary...paints the curiously coiffed real estate mogul as a billionaire browbeater!"
The senior entertainment writer for the Toronto Star, Canada’s largest paper, calls You’ve Been Trumped a "shattering chronicle of...greed, hubis and stupidity” and the National Post also gives it full feature treatment. The CBC National news programme Connect with Mark Kelly devotes 5 minutes to the film.
The host of City TV's Breakfast Television calls it "brilliant" and the CBC's top rated Jian Ghomeshi hailed it as “very compelling” in front of a live 300 strong audience.
The Washington Post reports how the film “played to sell out crowds in Toronto” earlier this month in an article criticising Trump’s environmental track record.
The Guardian reports on the “critically acclaimed” documentary as it ponders what’s next for Trump.
Politico reports “Donald Trump’s week from hell just won’t end...” and the new documentary in which “...environmental experts speak of the project’s adverse impact on the ecosystem.”
In London, The Times describes the “hard-hitting documentary as “a runaway success and festival hit” in North America which has “sold out cinemas at Canada's Hot Docs festival”.
And according to Indiewire, “if ever there was any remaining question of Trump's moral ambiguity, You've Been Trumped destroys it”.
